Rockstar Declares GTA 6 Will Be the Largest Game Launch Ever
Despite still being months from release, Rockstar has already declared Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the biggest game launch in history.
Quick, name the biggest video game launch of all time. Minecraft? Black Ops? One of those Mario Karts? All incorrect—Grand Theft Auto 6 takes the title. Although it’s not yet released, Rockstar seems confident, touting it as the largest game launch in history.
Recently, the studio was caught counting their proverbial chickens ahead of time in a job posting for a lead software engineer. The announcement claims that with the growth of GTA Online and the upcoming GTA 6, the successful applicant will be responsible for leading the evolution and operation of the data platform for what is expected to be the biggest launch ever, ensuring exceptional experiences for millions of players.
While predicting the size of GTA 6 seems akin to saying the sun will rise tomorrow, it is amusing to see Rockstar address this fact so boldly seven months prior to launch. It seems confident enough to make such bold proclamations, especially after the success of GTA 5, which has been one of the most profitable entertainment products ever. Unlike their parent company Take-Two, Rockstar appears unbothered by potential hubris, which could ultimately trigger the industry’s response.
