In 2018, the first chapter of Deltarune, a follow-up to Undertale, was launched, followed by the second chapter in 2021. On June 5, 2025, Chapters 3 and 4 were both released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, with Chapter 5 projected for 2026.
Deltarune Chapter 5 Likely Coming Second Half of 2026
Currently, Deltarune has honed its release window for Chapter 5 although it may not align entirely with fans’ expectations. Toby Fox recently shared a newsletter addressing gamers about Chapter 5’s development. The episode is progressing well, with extensive drafts of numerous areas and enemies completed. Localization is anticipated to commence by the end of 2025; however, Fox currently believes that Chapter 5 won’t be ready in the first half of 2026, suggesting a release no sooner than July of next year.
While the prolonged wait may be painful for some, it is considerably shorter than the previous three or four-year gaps between releases. If Fox and his team continue on this trajectory, Deltarune Chapter 6 might be viable by 2027, with complete game readiness in 2028—coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the game’s initial release.
The community is abuzz with theories about what Chapter 5 will include. Hints from Deltarune Chapter 4 have prompted speculation that Asgore, a significant antagonist from Undertale, will have a major role, potentially with his flower shop transitioning into a Dark World.
