MultiVersus Fights Back with Major Patch as Closure Approaches

With its final season nearing, MultiVersus rolls out significant improvements, igniting a passion among fans to save the game.

MultiVersus may be preparing to say “That’s all folks!” at the end of May, but it is not going quietly. The game appears to be rallying its fans with a significant update as it heads towards its final season.

The latest patch from Player First Games introduced popular characters Aquaman and Lola Bunny, along with several gameplay enhancements. Players are particularly praising the improved movement speed of various characters, which speaks to ongoing criticisms since the game’s launch in 2022.

The hashtag #SaveMultiversus has been trending on social media following the latest update, with nearly 20,000 posts noted on Reddit. In addition, some fans are even suggesting crowdfunded efforts to encourage streamers to play the game and raise awareness about its potential demise.

A community member humorously commented:

“full version of game drops > it’s slow, floaty and buggy > players are upset > announce the game is ending > drop a trailer for its final season > it finally looks fast, polished, and fun > it even has Lola Bunny > refuse to elaborate WHAT IS GOING ON”

While it is heartening to see the community come together, there are doubts about whether these late changes would have altered the game’s fate had they been introduced sooner. The decision-making that has led to an irregular trajectory for MultiVersus—whether from Player First Games, Warner Bros., or both—is perplexing.

Despite the ongoing enthusiasm, SteamDB indicates that MultiVersus is struggling to maintain over 2,000 concurrent players on PC. In contrast, platform competitors like Brawlhalla are thriving with over 10,000 daily players.

As it stands, Player First Games is set to close down MultiVersus on May 30 at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 5 pm GMT, and many hope that the game’s legacy will be celebrated before it ultimately shuts its doors.
