Fans Bring The Crew Back to Life After Ubisoft's Closure

A group of dedicated fans has successfully revived The Crew with a new server emulator, allowing players to enjoy the game once again despite Ubisoft's previous actions to shut it down.

The Crew Unlimited is out now.

The gaming community has rejoiced as The Crew, which Ubisoft had previously shut down, has been revived by passionate fans. This new version offers both offline and online gameplay through a sophisticated server emulator. According to the developers, “Your local server, your local savegames, your game. No one will ever be able to take this away from you now.” While owning a valid copy of The Crew is required for access, the project indicates it has no means to differentiate legit copies from others. Thus, uncovering a way to play remains open to everyone.

“I would never have fathomed the boundless enthusiasm for The Crew, but I empathize with the frustration resulting from Ubisoft’s decision to close the servers and make the game unplayable last year. Others have channeled this frustration into the ‘Stop Killing Games’ initiative, while some good-natured fans have committed to creating a community-driven renewal of the game for over a year and a half.”

It’s now available to play, reigniting experiences from 2014. For those seeking nostalgia and gameplay, downloading the mod and running it by integrating with existing game files is straightforward. This revival gives players hope that publishers reconsider their practices surrounding game support and access.
