Nintendo Announces Pricing for Switch 2 Virtual Boy Accessories

Nintendo unveils the costs for the Virtual Boy accessories that will accompany the Switch and Switch 2.

Nintendo has revealed the price for the upcoming Virtual Boy accessories compatible with the Switch and Switch 2, essential for experiencing the latest games on Nintendo Switch Online. The recent Nintendo Direct livestream in September 2025 brought a wave of announcements for fans across various franchises, especially focusing on the celebration of Mario’s 40th anniversary and the premiere of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in addition to news on Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Unexpectedly, an old Nintendo console found its way back into the spotlight.

As part of the expanding library of classic games on Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo recently disclosed that the Virtual Boy will indeed be added to the lineup. A selection of games from this notorious old console will be available on the Switch Online subscription early next year. Furthermore, Nintendo showcased a new peripheral alongside this announcement, requiring players to use an accessory shaped like the original Virtual Boy by slotting their Switch consoles into it. Fans are now learning the costs associated with these accessories.

A recent listing on Nintendo’s store confirmed the retail prices for both models of the Virtual Boy accessories for the Switch. The full-sized accessory, styled after the original console, will be priced at $99.99 USD, while the more compact cardboard model designed for portability is set to cost $24.99 USD. Both models will launch along with the Switch 2’s Virtual Boy games on February 17.

Pricing Overview for Virtual Boy Switch Accessories

  • Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2: $24.99

The inclusion of the Virtual Boy games will finally give many of Nintendo’s most elusive titles a chance to be enjoyed by a broader audience. The Virtual Boy had a short commercial life, discontinued in North America just a year post-launch, which means many initially developed games have not been available for re-release since their debut. Only 22 unique Virtual Boy titles were produced globally.
