Sucker Punch Productions, renowned for the open-world game Ghost of Tsushima and its sequels, is firmly distancing itself from the idea of reviving the Sly Cooper series. In a recent discussion, co-director Nate Fox expressed that most of the team shows little interest in revisiting the beloved raccoon character who last graced the screens in 2013. “It’s been a long time since Sly Cooper came out,” Fox remarked, indicating that the nostalgic yearning in the fanbase doesn’t reflect an actual desire among the current team.
Despite fans’ hopes for a return to the Sly Cooper series, Fox made it clear that the team is focused on newer projects, specifically mentioning their current work on the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei, which is scheduled for release on October 6, 2025. With Sony owning the rights, any revival of the classic series would require their input, and there’s currently no indication they are willing to delegate that to another developer.
Fox’s comments came during an interview with MinnMax, where he humorously noted, “Only about ten percent of us would be very excited to develop a new Sly Cooper game.” After reflecting on the mainstream success of large titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 and their impact, he added, “We’re all still hungover from our own celebration of that delay. That was a great day.”
Although Sucker Punch is focusing on making a mark with Ghost of Yōtei, their history with Sly Cooper is unlikely to be revisited soon, leaving fans to reminisce about its past adventures.
