The open beta of Battlefield 6 has revealed that the game’s ping system was too effective, according to developers. Players utilized the system to identify enemies quickly, often resulting in the simple act of spotting enemies becoming too effective. Developers noted this trend and plan to scale back the effectiveness of the ping system in the final release.
Highlights from the Developer’s Insights
- During the beta, players extensively used the ping feature, causing enemies to be marked easily—frequently compared to being shot at a food item called “Dorito.”
“We definitely reduced the range and overall reduced the power. We found out a lot in the open beta that it was obviously very strong, just like players said. Really, players ended up just shooting Doritos,” said Matthew Nickerson, a console combat designer.
Developers want to make sure the ping feature is a functional part of Battlefield 6, rather than a passive feature. Adjustments will ensure it cannot be spammed across distant targets indiscriminately, thus enhancing tactical gameplay.
