In the September 12 Nintendo Direct, Pokemon Legends: Z-A showcased the Mega Evolutions of Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja, the beloved starter Pokemon from Pokemon X and Y. This announcement coincides with the game’s increasing anticipation for its launch on October 16.

The fresh Mega Evolutions represent the final forms of Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, each featuring dual-typing. Notably, Greninja’s Water and Dark types are strategically effective against Delphox’s Fire and Psychic types. As with other Mega Evolutions in the game, players will need specific Mega Stones to trigger these forms, although the method to acquire the stones for this starter trio is yet to be determined.

Additionally, following the debut of Mega Malamar, three more Mega Pokemon - Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja - will be available for players to enhance their teams. The Nintendo Direct presentment highlighted gameplay from the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, reinforcing the emphasis on Mega Evolutions, with the trailer indicating that previous Mega Pokemon will also be returning.

Uncertainty lingers concerning whether Mega forms of Chesnaught, Delphox, or Greninja will maintain their original typing. The Nintendo Direct revealed not just the Kalos starters but also introduced Mega Raichu X and Y, along with the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC, which focuses on the Mythical Pokemon Hoopa.
