Xbox Series X and S Sales Figures Unveiled

The latest financial insights reveal Xbox Series X and S have sold approximately 30 million units.

Summary

  • Xbox Series X/S estimated to have sold around 30 million units, less than Sony’s PlayStation 5.
  • Microsoft acknowledges losing console war, but focuses on services through Xbox Game Pass.
  • Rumors swirl about Xbox revealing a new console, more focused on next-gen rather than mid-generation upgrades.

A recent financial report indicates that Xbox Series X/S consoles have sold approximately 30 million units since their launch. This figure, however, should be taken with caution as official statistics from Microsoft are no longer being provided.

Since entering the console market, Xbox has consistently competed with Sony’s PlayStation, with both systems sharing similar specifications and game catalogs. Despite intense competition, the performance of the Xbox Series X/S has yet to match that of its predecessors.

Currently, a fiscal report from game publisher Take-Two Interactive highlights that Sony has sold roughly 65 million PlayStation 5 units, leaving Xbox significantly behind in sales. However, the report suggests that the numbers for Xbox may have risen slightly since the estimation, dating back to November 2024.

Microsoft acknowledges that it has fallen behind in this console generation, with Nintendo’s Switch dominating with over 150 million units sold. Despite this setback, the company continues to shift its strategy toward software development and services, such as Xbox Game Pass, to enhance its market presence. As the consoles near their fifth anniversary, speculation arises about the potential for an upcoming next-generation system from Xbox, focusing on advancements rather than incremental upgrades.
