Steam's Major Update Transforms Game Sorting and Adds CPU Temperature Monitoring

The latest Steam update resolves long-standing organization issues in game libraries while introducing new performance features.

This is a very big day for me.

Of the many challenges facing our home, the good ship planet Earth, surely none is greater than the fact our Steam libraries won’t organize themselves properly. If you own the Assassin’s Creed or Yakuza games, you know what I’m talking about: Steam’s rigid alphabetization means that series are presented out of order. For instance, Yakuza Kiwami (which is Yakuza 1) comes after Yakuza 6, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey comes before AC Origins.

But with the recent update on September 9th, such nightmares are over. The update introduces a Customization tab, allowing users to set custom artwork and sorting titles for their games in the library, offering an effective solution to the previously frustrating organization issue.

The Steam performance overlay has seen significant updates as well, including a feature to monitor CPU temperatures on both Windows and Linux, though it requires kernel access on Windows. Additionally, the fix for DLSS frame-gen issues has also been resolved. Overall, the September 9 update offers enhanced usability and numerous performance tweaks.

Key Changes:

  • A new accessibility settings menu.
  • Improved in-game overlay and performance monitoring features.
  • Added support for dynamic collections.

More detailed information is available about the changes including in-game filtering options and enhanced usability for private games. A full list of the update changes is accessible in the Steam client.
