Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has officially revealed Mega Malamar, making it the second Gen 6 Pokemon to receive a new Mega Evolution ahead of the game’s October 16 release. The stream of new Mega Evolution reveals for Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been flowing steadily over the past couple of months, but there are still plenty of Pokemon who have the potential for an upgrade before the game hits Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Mega Malamar
Just as Pokemon Legends: Arceus took players back to an ancient version of the Sinnoh region introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will lead players back to Lumiose City, the central hub of the Kalos region from Pokemon X and Y. Malamar and its pre-evolved form, Inkay, originated in this region, so the new Mega Evolution should feel right at home in the capital city.
Mega Malamar is Officially Coming to Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Following up on teases of Mega Malamar released almost a week ago, a new live-action trailer has been released on Pokemon’s official social media channels, confirming its debut in the upcoming spin-off game. This new trailer takes the form of an artificial news report, detailing Malamar’s rise in popularity across Lumiose City and the peculiar effects that its psychic powers are having on fans. While the news broadcast builds tension, with its actors seemingly hypnotized into falling in love with “my friend Malamar,” viewers don’t see the actual Mega Evolved form until the trailer’s end, revealing Malamar with an elongated body that flows through a glowing rainbow. Its tentacles glow either green or pink, which it spins as though trying to hypnotize the viewer.
Mega Malamar is the fourth overall Pokemon set to receive a Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the second to come from the Kalos region. Nearly two weeks ago, Pokemon Legends: Z-A revealed Mega Hawlucha, showcasing the original Flying/Fighting-type Pokemon triumphing in a wrestling match against a Machamp. Prior to that, official announcements for Mega Evolutions included Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebel, meaning generations 1 and 6 are the only two confirmed for this game’s Mega Evolution roster thus far.
There are many other leaked Mega Evolutions for Pokemon Legends: Z-A anticipated, including fresh forms for fully-evolved starter Pokemon like Chesnaught, Delphox, Emboar, Feraligatr, and Greninja, although many of these have yet to be officially confirmed. Almost 30 new Mega Evolutions are expected in the game, and there remains a month for Game Freak and Nintendo to reveal more.
