Exciting Developments for PS5's Wolverine Game

Insomniac's Wolverine game receives a positive update from a reliable source, hinting at an upcoming trailer.

A trustworthy insider has offered an encouraging update regarding Insomniac’s forthcoming Wolverine game. With rumors circulating about a new trailer for [Wolverine], expected to be revealed soon, avid fans of PlayStation’s high-quality first-party titles may soon receive good news.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Wolverine was first showcased with a CGI trailer during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, initially announced to be in early development for the PS5. Insomniac has remained silent about its progress, but a significant cyberattack in late 2023 resulted in numerous details from the game being leaked, including a projected release window for 2026 and a partially completed alpha version. This raised worries of potential delays or cancellations of Wolverine, yet shortly after the breach, Insomniac reassured fans that development would continue as planned, although no release date was provided.

Recently, well-known industry insider Tom Henderson stated that there are plans for a new Wolverine trailer to debut at the rumored PlayStation State of Play event in September 2025. This has generated considerable excitement among fans who have been eagerly awaiting official updates on the title. Henderson, in a recent episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, shared insights from some playtesters, who reportedly feel that the game looks “fantastic.”

“From a few playtesters I’ve been speaking to, they think [Wolverine] looks fantastic. So that’s good news, and fingers crossed we get to see a release date in a couple of weeks’ time.”

This news represents a positive sign, suggesting that development on Wolverine has been progressing well despite the leak of sensitive information which may have impacted the morale of Insomniac’s developers. Henderson also reiterated his earlier claims about the new trailer being revealed at the September 2025 State of Play, adding that his information comes from a reputable source with a history of reliable insights regarding PlayStation’s internal matters. However, he cautioned that the trailer might not make it to the State of Play, making the December 2025 Game Awards the next most likely opportunity.

The anticipation builds as it now seems more probable than ever that Insomniac fans will finally glimpse Wolverine after nearly four years of waiting. It’s crucial to remember that when a PlayStation first-party game is showcased at a State of Play, it typically indicates a year until release, as seen with titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. If Insomniac is indeed ready with Wolverine’s second trailer, it could signify that the game is joining the PlayStation’s 2026 first-party lineup, potentially becoming a highlight for the following fall.
