It’s been approximately six months since the launch of AMD’s FSR 4 technology, which faced challenges regarding its integration into many games. Users often found themselves needing third-party tools to enable FSR 4, but now, with the release of the latest Adrenalin driver (version 25.9.1), AMD makes it much easier.
According to AMD, this driver enables FSR 4 in over 85 games. By simply updating the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver, users can activate this advanced technology on their AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. Just ensure that FSR 3.1 is enabled in supported games, alongside the FSR 4 toggle in the software application.
Unfortunately, this enhancement is limited to games that support DirectX 12 and FSR 3.1, excluding Vulkan games from the list of compatible titles.
Historiically, players of the RX 9000 series had to resort to external software, such as OptiScaler, to enable FSR 4 in games not officially supported, which necessitated tedious manual file adjustments. Although the interest in FSR 4’s broader integration has increased since its initial release, notable titles like Cyberpunk 2077 only recently began supporting it.
While the new driver offers a more streamlined process for enabling FSR 4, it’s important to recognize that this is still a first-party solution, lacking the official adaptation by game developers, potentially affecting performance and appearance in those games. Players using older titles not aligned with FSR 3.1 might still find themselves dependent on tools like OptiScaler until those games are officially updated.
