Neyyah is available now.
While Myst and its sequel Riven remain widely known, games directly inspired by Myst are rare. Notably, Jonathan Blow’s puzzle game, The Witness, is approaching its decade mark in January.
Recently, MicroProse published Neyyah. This 3D first-person point-and-click puzzler embraces its Myst-like inspiration. Created over seven years by solo developer Adam Gwynaire, Neyyah immerses players in various remote islands rich with unique flora and enigmatic structures. Much like its predecessor Myst, it involves activating ancient devices through interconnected puzzles.
The game features FMV cutscenes that showcase a charming yet amateur quality, fleshing out its narrative. A unique soundtrack includes over 80 tracks, with a significant portion composed by Zaedyn Turner, a talent recognized for his work during his pre-teen years.
Currently, Neyyah holds a 96% positive rating on Steam, with users appreciating its homage to the classic Myst franchise.
