Discord has announced a remarkable increase in server capacity, pushing boundaries that many thought were unattainable. Regular updates from Discord usually introduce bug fixes and new features, but this particular update stands out.
Back in July, Discord adjusted its server user limit from 500,000 to an astounding 2.5 million users. This is already a substantial leap conducive for most servers on the platform, yet it seems Discord was not finished with their ambitious plans.
Discord Greatly Expands Server Capacity
On September 3, Discord unveiled another update that brought a host of technical improvements along with new features. Most importantly, the new capacity allows for 25 million users on a single server, which easily accommodates entire game fandoms. For instance, the combined sales of popular Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 5 would not even fill this capacity entirely. This development can significantly benefit developers incorporating Discord directly into their games.
Although very few servers will reach this new threshold, it underscores a major technical achievement for Discord, which has evolved significantly since its inception as a platform for Final Fantasy 11 players to communicate more effectively. Discord has also improved backend stability to enhance performance for large servers, ensuring smooth connectivity and user experiences.
Additional features introduced in this update include enhancements for the Android app on older devices and new permissions for server management, such as options for pinning messages. Furthermore, a new sound notification has been added for camera activation, bolstering user privacy.
