Randy Pitchford Reflects on the Stop Killing Games Movement

Gearbox's Randy Pitchford shares his deep thoughts on the Stop Killing Games initiative, pondering the significance of life and existence.

Recently, Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox, opened up about his views on the Stop Killing Games campaign, expressing profound thoughts on mortality and the inherent sadness of impermanence.

“I hate the fact that someday, the people that I care about aren’t going to be here, and someday I’m not going to be here.”

This initiative, which aims to ensure that online games continue to be accessible post their server support phase, has seen a surge in support, largely prompted by the controversial shutdown of The Crew by Ubisoft. Pitchford noted the emotional weight of losing games: “I’ve lost games, and it’s an emotional experience, so I admire the activism.”

As he articulated, this dilemma is not just about games but reflects broader existential issues:

“It’s kind of a metaphor, I think, for life. I hate the fact that everything will eventually end, and I love that I hate it because it fuels my desire to fight against that loss.”

Borderlands 4 is scheduled to debut on September 12.
