The anticipated game Mewgenics will officially launch on February 10, 2026, exclusively for PC on Steam. Developed by Edmund McMillen, known for his previous successes like Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, this project has been in the works for several years.
The game’s announcement, initially made during the height of Super Meat Boy’s popularity in 2012, was set for a 2014 release, but it faced multiple delays, particularly after McMillen’s focus shifted to other projects, notably The Legend of Bum-bo, announced in 2018. However, updates shared recently revealed significant progress in Mewgenics, sparking renewed excitement among fans.
The game is designed around cat breeding and combat, where players will manage a team of unique cats to battle adversaries, each with distinct abilities. With over 800 items, more than 200 enemies, and various classes to explore, Mewgenics promises to be a rich and engaging experience for players.
You can catch glimpses of gameplay features and combat dynamics through a detailed 50-minute video shared by McMillen on YouTube, confirming that many game components are complete. Upcoming phases include fine-tuning animations and enhancing overall player experience with polished visuals. While a test phase is anticipated in October, it will be limited to friends and industry peers.
The gaming community has expressed immense enthusiasm as they await the return of Mewgenics, especially with the long-awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong set for the same year.
