Sophie Turner Cast as Lara Croft in Amazon's Tomb Raider Series

After being deemed "dead" earlier this year, Amazon's live-action Tomb Raider series is back on track with Sophie Turner set to star.

The Amazon live-action series for Tomb Raider, once thought to be on hold, is set to resume production, with Sophie Turner cast as the iconic Lara Croft. The show is expected to start filming in January 2026. Turner previously expressed her excitement for the role, citing the character’s significance and her commitment to the portrayal.

In 2024, there was speculation around the casting, with Turner and Lucy Boynton identified as leading contenders. The series aims to honor the legacy of Lara Croft while introducing fresh narratives for both longtime fans and new viewers alike.

“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft… They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands,” said Turner, emphasizing her dedication to the role.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the showrunner, shared her enthusiasm about having Turner on board, stating that it is rare to work on a project involving a character loved since childhood. The series indicates a strong commitment from Amazon to revitalize and maintain the appeal of Tomb Raider in the competitive entertainment landscape.
