Fan-Made Server Emulator for The Crew Set to Launch

The Crew Unlimited project to revive Ubisoft's racing game is nearing completion with a launch date set.

The Crew, a street racing game developed by Ubisoft, was unfortunately shut down in 2024. However, fans have not given up hope and are now launching a project called The Crew Unlimited. This initiative is a fan-made emulator set to launch later this month on September 15, aiming to revive the game through a custom server emulator.

According to the project team, the emulator is now ‘feature complete,’ with plans to thoroughly test the software before release. “We’ve dedicated a lot of time and effort into this project, and it’s finally coming together,” stated project lead whammy4, expressing excitement for the launch and gratitude to the community for their support.

The project is a direct response to Ubisoft’s decision to close the servers, which rendered the game unplayable. To make matters worse, Ubisoft began revoking game licenses, pushing the development team to create an emulator that would bypass these restrictions without modifying game files. Members of the team have expressed sadness over Ubisoft’s actions but affirmed that the emulator project remains on track.

For those interested, The Crew Unlimited will be available for download on the TCU website. However, players will need to own the game to participate. The emulator currently supports PC versions, with potential plans for console compatibility in the future. The developers also mentioned the availability of mod support, with restrictions in place for online play, allowing only cosmetic modifications.

As the project moves closer to its launch date, questions loom regarding Ubisoft’s potential reaction, as legal pursuits often follow such initiatives. The community’s response and backlash from previous controversies might give Ubisoft pause in their usual aggressive tactics.
