Capcom's President on Challenges Facing Monster Hunter Wilds Sales

The president of Capcom attributes the lackluster sales of Monster Hunter Wilds to high PS5 prices, revealing the struggles impacting the franchise.

Monster Hunter Wilds is currently facing significant challenges, particularly concerning its sales figures. Capcom’s President, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, noted that a major barrier to sales is the high price of the PS5, which currently retails around 80,000 yen in Japan. Including the costs for games and subscriptions, the initial spend can amount to nearly 100,000 yen—an intimidating figure for younger gamers.

In an interview with Nikkei, Tsujimoto remarked:

“We also found that the ‘PS5 barrier’ is unexpectedly large. This situation is not limited to Japan, but is similar overseas as well.”

Given that the PC player base constituted more than 60% of Capcom’s digital game sales last year, optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for PC could be a strategic move to boost its performance and accessibility.

Tsujimoto expressed a desire to expand the game’s reach despite these pricing hurdles, stating:

“Our next challenge is to overcome these obstacles and get Monster Hunter Wilds to as many people as possible.”

With the ongoing discussions about the console’s pricing, it’s clear that Capcom has ambitions to enhance the game’s performance issues, as players have voiced their concerns on platforms like Steam.
