Jan Theysen, creative director at King Art Games for Dawn of War 4, recently stated that the original protagonist, Gabriel Angelos, will not be part of the upcoming sequel. The decision was made early in development. In his words, “That was actually one of the decisions we made relatively early. We don’t want Gabriel Angelos in the game.”
Gabriel Angelos played a prominent role in the original storyline of Dawn of War but has been absent in several sequels. In the context of the new game, Theysen explained that Dawn of War 4 aims to feature more relatable heroes. “For us, he felt a little bit overpowered,” he noted, emphasizing a desire for characters that resemble the player units rather than formidable heroes.
This approach signifies a return to a style more akin to the original, where players can expect impactful heroes without overwhelming them. Fans can look forward to this shift and what it means for gameplay dynamics as the title evolves.
