Capcom Addresses Pragmata Mega Man Speculation

Capcom's producer dismisses the theory linking Pragmata to the Mega Man franchise amidst ongoing speculation.

A producer at Capcom has rejected the theory that Pragmata is a hidden Mega Man game. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a new trailer and release window for this sci-fi action-adventure title, as many uncertainties about its narrative still linger. Speculation about potential connections to other games has emerged, but Capcom has discredited one popular rumor.

The third-person title has faced a tumultuous development journey, having been delayed twice by Capcom. Following a period of silence since its initial announcement, the company is now confirming a release in 2026 and increasing its marketing efforts. Nevertheless, this revelation hasn’t quelled the circulating rumors and theories.

Capcom Clarifies That Pragmata Is Not a Mega Man Game

In a discussion with VGC, producer Naoto Oyama humorously reacted to the rumor correlating Pragmata with Mega Man, asserting that this connection is unfounded. Oyama emphasized that Pragmata is “a completely new game” by Capcom, implying that any similarities to other franchises are mere coincidences or Easter eggs. Thus, the zombie-like adversaries reminiscent of the Resident Evil series don’t imply a link to that franchise either.

While the hype around the Mega Man theory is understandable, due to Pragmata’s lunar setting, its corrupted robotic foes, and the humanoid robot protagonist Diana, Capcom remains firm in its stance. Despite their acknowledgment that Mega Man is a crucial part of their IP portfolio, they have not released a main series installment in years. This silence has led to fans exploring and interpreting every hint and clue, though it appears these indications were simply hopeful speculation.

Oyama did express appreciation for the Mega Man community’s interest in Pragmata. With past experience as a producer on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, he finds personal connections, albeit unofficial ones, between the two titles. Enthusiasts won’t have to wait long for more updates on Capcom’s latest endeavor; the Tokyo Game Show 2025 will showcase a robust lineup, including Pragmata, slated for September 24.
