No Such Thing as a Laser-Resistant Weed, Says Company Using Nvidia GPUs for Weeding

A new farming technology approaches weed control by utilizing Nvidia GPUs to target and eliminate weeds with lasers.

Imagine laser hair removal, but applied to fields.

As noted by Tom’s Hardware, the LaserWeeder from Carbon Robotics is an innovative tool designed to be attached to tractors, employing multiple Nvidia GPUs to precisely zap weeds as the vehicle moves through the field. This method allows farmers to eliminate weeds without resorting to chemicals, opting instead for a high-tech laser solution.

Alex Sergeev, Carbon Robotics’ CTO, stated, “There’s no such thing as a laser-resistant weed.”
Translation: This suggests that all types of weeds can be effectively managed using their laser technology.

Reportedly, this LaserWeeder can annihilate about 10,000 weeds in just one minute, significantly increasing efficiency compared to traditional weeding practices. In total, Carbon Robotics has deployed over 150 units since its inception in 2018, successfully removing over 30 billion weeds. This marks a notable advancement in agricultural technology.
