Phison Dismisses SSD Update Bricking Claims After Extensive Tests
After extensive testing, Phison found no evidence to support allegations that a Windows 11 update was bricking SSDs.
Phison has conducted an investigation into claims that the KB5063878 Windows 11 update is damaging SSDs. After dedicating over 4,500 hours to testing and running 2,200 test cycles, they stated:
“We were unable to reproduce the reported issue, and no partners or customers have reported that the issue affected their drives at this time.”
WCCFTech has suggested that a third party may be perpetuating a hoax about the issue. Regardless, no solid evidence supports the claims that the update is harmful. Issues could be circumstantial, reflecting purely on hardware issues rather than the Windows update itself.
As a reminder, earlier reports indicated potential problems occurring during heavy write operations to certain SSDs like the WD Blue SN5000 and SK Hynix Platinum P41. While warnings have been issued, Phison’s findings seem to suggest no universal faults linked to the update, indicating that it could be a limited issue not affecting most users.
