New Overclocking Milestone: 9.1 GHz Achieved by Enthusiasts
Overclockers have smashed a record by pushing an Intel Core i9 14900K to an astonishing 9.1 GHz, setting a new benchmark for CPU performance.
Echoing George Mallory’s famous response of “Because it’s there” regarding climbing Everest, dedicated overclockers are constantly pushing hardware limits. Recently, a team using liquid helium managed to overclock an Intel Core i9 14900K to a staggering 9.1 GHz. This achievement, reported by Uniko’s Hardware, showcases what can be done with the right equipment.
The overclock involves utilizing an Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex motherboard, Corsair Vengeance DDR4 memory, and a GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. Typically, the Core i9 14900K can only reach 6.0 GHz on a single P-core, but experts disabled the E-cores to accomplish this new record by tweaking various BIOS settings.
Overclocking Achievement
Furthermore, achieving such speeds with off-the-shelf CPUs raises questions about the possibility of reaching 10 GHz eventually. Current silicon transistors face significant limitations when operating at such high frequencies, but future materials might change the landscape.
As expectations heighten, one thing is certain: when new processors emerge, overclockers will be ready with their liquid helium to chase new records. Why? Because it’s in their nature to innovate and push boundaries.
