ASRock Responds to Tariff Impacts by Shifting Production Away from China

As tariffs loom, ASRock announces plans to change its graphics card manufacturing locations, indicating potential price increases for consumers.

In a significant development for the PC gaming industry, ASRock has flagged the need to adapt its manufacturing strategies in light of recent tariff introductions by the U.S. government. As part of this response, the company reports plans to relocate at least a portion of its graphics card manufacturing operations from China. As cited by PCMag, a representative mentioned:

“As for the 10% tariff applied to other products like GPU cards, we need some time to transfer the manufacturing to other countries.”

This shift reflects broader concerns echoed by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which has cautioned that such tariffs might adversely impact the gaming landscape in the U.S. Although the implications of this strategy remain politically ambiguous, the impending changes could see heightened prices for consumers as manufacturers adapt. ASRock further stated that during the transition phase:

“We may absorb some of the costs and also increase some in price to reflect the increased cost.”

Despite the competitive nature of the market making price hikes difficult, ASRock might soon need to navigate these changes to maintain viability.

This trend may not stop with ASRock; numerous manufacturers in the PC gaming sector, such as MSI, rely heavily on Chinese production. Moreover, the potential increases in costs are foreshadowed by rising expenses from suppliers like TSMC, which is also encountering significant pricing pressures amid ongoing trade tensions.

The future remains uncertain, but as ASRock adjusts its operational strategies and anticipates cost implications, the effects of the tariffs are starting to ripple through the hardware sector.
