With the launch of Overwatch 2’s Season 18, players are discovering a wealth of loot boxes and silver coins following the new Progression 2.0 update. This system provides an enhanced experience where players can earn rewards at a faster rate.
Earlier, in some discussion among friends, one of my buddies revealed he had amassed 53 loot boxes waiting for him in the Overwatch 2 menu. This revelation had us all rushing to check our own stores, eager to discover what treasures awaited us.
The revamped progression now rewards players with six loot boxes as they level up between levels 20 to 60. While players have retained their previous progress, many are likely already sitting on a pile of loot due to earlier play.
In addition, players are excited about the ongoing Play like Luka event that offers up to 77 loot boxes for engaging in a few simple challenges, allowing those who participate to earn basketball-themed items along with their loot.
The decision to reintroduce loot boxes this time around aligns with community feedback advocating for more rewarding systems as players have been missing out on the excitement these boxes can bring.
My overall takeaway: This new era of loot box abundance may not last, but I’m all in for saving the thrill for when I can crack open each of those boxes, regardless of the eventual contents.
