Surge in Players for Helldivers 2 After Xbox Launch
Helldivers 2 experiences a significant increase in player count following its release on Xbox consoles.
Overview
Helldivers 2 has recently witnessed a significant uptick in player engagement following its eagerly awaited launch on Xbox Series X/S. The game’s concurrent active player count has soared to new heights, rejuvenating excitement within its community. Officially released in February 2024, Helldivers 2 was initially an exclusive for PC and PS5. In a surprising turn of events, Sony allowed Arrowhead Studios to also make the game available on Xbox, breaking new ground in the ongoing rivalry between the two console platforms.
Helldivers 2 Group
In the wake of its launch, the game experienced immense popularity, grabbing the attention of over 450,000 players on Steam and outpacing notable titles such as Counter-Strike 2 in terms of active player totals. However, shortly after, Sony’s decision to require PSN accounts for all players on PC led to significant backlash from the community. Although this decision was subsequently revoked, its impact lingered. Nevertheless, with continuous updates and content releases, Helldivers 2 has regained much of its initial acclaim, though it hasn’t quite matched its original surge.
Player Statistics After Xbox Launch
Launched on August 26, the Xbox version of the game caused a tidal wave of new player registrations, increasing the concurrent user count from 146,000 to 390,000 in just seven minutes, as reported by a Reddit user. Notably, the number of players on Steam also reached a record high of over 165,000. Although it is presumed that the PS5 version continues to perform well, specific metrics are not currently available.
There’s an expectation of even more players joining over weekends, potentially boosting the count to 600,000, especially with the influx of Xbox users and the return of previous players drawn by a wealth of new content that Arrowhead has planned for the coming days.
Anticipated Updates
Moreover, on the same release day, players were treated to the Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST crossover, allowing them to earn new armor sets and weapons inspired by the Halo series at a cost of 1,500 Super Credits. Upcoming content includes the “Into the Unjust” update set for September 2 and the Dust Devils Premium Warbond release on September 4, introducing new enemies, maps, and weaponry to the co-op experience.
