Experience the Detailed Maps of Cinder City
There’s something special about a well-crafted video game map. Whether you prefer to enjoy the scenery or search for collectibles, Cinder City, NCSoft’s forthcoming MMO FPS, promises a unique mix of both experiences amid an intense zombie apocalypse.
When I first jumped into a plane and parachuted into Seoul’s landscapes, the sight was daunting. Skyscrapers loomed over me, while the city’s infrastructure lay in ruin, echoing the chaos of a zombie-infested world.
Gameplay Features
Although it seemed overwhelming, navigating through the detailed environment was more straightforward than expected, especially during the early single-player campaign that functions as a tutorial. After completing it, players can explore the expansive map at their leisure.
A Unique Exploration Experience
James Bae, CEO of BigFire Games, shared insights on Cinder City’s maps:
“At launch, there will be two open world maps, each covering between seven to five square kilometers. One map is a faithful recreation of Seoul, while the second is based on Pangyo, where our office is located. The layouts are identical.”
Translation: When the game launches, players can expect two open-world maps, one a detailed version of Seoul and the other based on the Pangyo area.
This authenticity means players familiar with Seoul will find the landmarks and streets almost indistinguishable from real life. Additionally, Bae hinted at amusing features like zombies in NCSoft’s office wearing name tags, although they won’t be friendly.
Versatile Tactical Combat
The intricate layouts not only enhance scenery but also provide tactical advantages for combat. Players will engage in various battle styles, whether utilizing the cover of buildings or maneuvering through streets filled with dangers.
Cinder City supports aerial travel between maps using helicopters, and allows for further exploration inside urban structures, adding depth to the gameplay. Overall, the unexpected mix of serene exploration and intense combat creates a captivating gaming experience.
As Cinder City gears up for its 2026 release, players can look forward to immersing themselves in the beautifully complex landscapes of Seoul and beyond.
