A Recent Update to Windows 11 Disrupts the Popular OBS Streaming Method, Temporary Solution Available
A recent Windows 11 update has caused issues for streaming users, particularly with OBS. A temporary fix has been provided.
If you’re leveraging OBS for streaming, especially if you’re integrating multiple PCs for broadcasting, you might have experienced significant stuttering and lag along with choppy audio/video. The latest Windows 11 update, known as build 26100.4946 released on August 12, has rendered NDI functionality for many users ineffective. Complaints regarding ‘sudden lag and framedrops’ have surfaced on various platforms, including the VideoEngineering Subreddit.
NDI (Network Device Interface) facilitates communication between multiple devices, ensuring low-latency audio and video transfer. This allows streamers to connect cameras, computers, and other equipment effortlessly within a single stream without introducing latency.
To mitigate the issue, NDI suggests switching the NDI Receive Mode to either TCP or UDP instead of RUDP. Users can download the NDI Tools pack, navigate to the advanced tab, and choose the desired receive mode. This fix must be applied to both PCs when streaming from one to another.
Microsoft is aware of the problem and is actively investigating the matter, with further information anticipated shortly.
