Announcement of Framework 16: Nvidia Steps In for Upgradeable Gaming Laptops

Framework unveils its latest modular 16-inch gaming laptop, introducing an upgradeable Nvidia graphics module.

The Framework 16 has been revealed, boasting a backwards compatible RTX 5070 graphics module. While AMD steps back from the mobile GPU scene, Framework has opted for Nvidia to fill the gap.

Today, Framework announced that pre-orders for the new graphics module are now open, starting at $1,499. Shipment is expected to begin in November. This announcement is welcomed news, especially after concerns that the original Framework 16 was nearing obsolescence following AMD’s departure from laptop graphics.

With this upgrade, existing Framework customers can confidently expect that the new parts will integrate seamlessly with their current devices, maintaining a commitment to modularity. However, the overall cost for the RTX 5070 module is projected to be around $700, indicating a premium over many standard gaming laptops.

Additionally, Framework is enhancing the thermal management system, promising reduced noise and improved performance through better components.
