Director of Elden Ring Film Crafts 160-Page Script to Win Over Miyazaki

Discover how director Alex Garland went the extra mile, creating a comprehensive script to capture the interest of Elden Ring's creator.

Alex Garland’s dedication to bringing the Elden Ring universe to life is undeniable. His enthusiasm for FromSoftware’s masterpiece led him to write a 160-page script, complete with 40 pages of imagery, aiming to persuade Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game’s creator, to support the film adaptation.

In a feature from the New Yorker, it was revealed that A24’s head of film, Noah Sacco, was impressed after witnessing Garland play the game. Following their conversation filled with admiration, Sacco agreed to collaborate with Garland on the film.

This commitment stands out, particularly considering Garland’s efforts were made prior to receiving official approval from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. He sought to demonstrate his serious interest, laying out a detailed vision for how the film could capture the essence of the iconic fantasy world.

His fervor suggests that the process of developing a film based on such a beloved gaming title is being handled with care and respect. Having prior experience with acclaimed projects like Ex Machina and Annihilation, Garland seems fully prepared for this creative undertaking.
