In the wake of the Battlefield 6 beta, the shooter game Battlefield 2042 has seen a resurgence in players, now ranking above Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Steam.
With Battlefield 6 nearing release, Battlefield 2042 is witnessing a revival. Originally released in 2021 to negative reviews, the game’s subsequent updates and new content have started to enhance player sentiment. However, the attention now shifts to EA’s latest installment in the franchise.
After multiple testing periods, excitement around Battlefield 6 peaked during its open beta, breaking records for both EA and Steam with over half a million concurrent players, even surpassing Call of Duty’s previous peaks.
Despite Battlefield 6 being offline until its launch in October, the momentum continues. Current data from SteamCharts indicates that Battlefield 2042 has outpaced both Call of Duty and its own 2021 predecessor, with player counts reaching new highs.
Furthermore, the ongoing farewell event for Battlefield 2042 offers players exclusive skins, contributing to the influx of gamers. Additionally, the game is currently on sale for just $3 on Steam, further enticing players. However, this significant increase in player count may not reflect an actual long-term rise, as many are likely using AFK servers for XP farming in anticipation of Battlefield 6’s launch.
The popularity surge might be temporary, especially with the $3 promotion ending soon, coinciding with the expiration of the battle pass before Battlefield 6 launches on October 10.
