The Expanse Game Showcase Delivers Strong Mass Effect Atmosphere with a Loyalty Mechanic

Owlcat's latest presentation for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn evokes feelings reminiscent of the Mass Effect series, complete with a new loyalty system.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn has always emitted strong Mass Effect vibes since its announcement by Owlcat Games earlier in 2025. In a recent showcase, Creative Director Alexander Mishulin attempted to distinguish the new title from BioWare’s celebrated RPG series, though the similarities still resonate strongly.

The showcase features a brief overview of various environments with the player character navigating in a third-person view. An in-game voiceover features two mercenaries discussing their next destination after a mission, revealing that players will take on the role of a merc working for a company named Pinkwater Security. They ultimately choose the asteroid Eros as their first point of interest.

The visuals are reminiscent of Mass Effect, showcasing moody lighting and intricate environments that might remind players of iconic locations from the series. Although no combat or dialogues were featured in the video, the game’s mechanics suggest a loyalty system that adapts based on player choices, likened to what fans have familiarized themselves with in past RPGs.
