Hollow Knight Achieves Remarkable 15 Million Sales
The indie game Hollow Knight has reached 15 million sales, coinciding with the news of its much-anticipated sequel.
Team Cherry has announced that Hollow Knight has sold a staggering 15 million copies since its debut in 2017. This indie Metroidvania has earned numerous awards from both players and critics. However, its upcoming sequel, Silksong, has recently taken the spotlight. As fans eagerly await the sequel, they continue to enjoy the original version of Hollow Knight, which has remained popular even eight years after its release.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry revealed that Hollow Knight’s impressive sales position it as “one of the most successful independent video games” ever. Interestingly, many top-selling Pokémon titles have yet to reach the 15 million mark, despite Pokémon being the second-best-selling video game franchise in history.
Just after the confirmation of Silksong’s release date, Hollow Knight also saw a spike in its player count, recording over 23,000 concurrent players on Steam at once, which represents a 150% increase in just a few days. With this excitement, anticipation for the sequel is at an all-time high, setting the stage for what could be another commercial success for Team Cherry.
This success story is particularly notable if one considers that Hollow Knight was originally intended to be a modest two-hour project. Instead, it blossomed into the beloved title that has captivated millions, leaving both developers and fans excited about what lies ahead.
