Developers Address Controversy Over Bloodlines 2 DLC Clans
The latest update on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 reveals the controversial decision to lock two playable clans behind a DLC paywall, sparking discussions within the gaming community.
The long-awaited sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade is set to debut with six clans, although players will need to unlock two of them through paid DLC. After Paradox’s previous struggles with the game’s development, the choice to charge extra for content received widespread backlash from fans.
In a recent interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Ian Thomas, the game’s narrative director, explained, “We have been expanding it from where we originally planned to land it.” He reassured players that the decision to delay the game for more content was made with quality in mind. However, many gamers are still frustrated with the notion of having to pay for additional clans at launch.
As Thomas further stated, “Paradox has been really good when we discuss adding content; however, the community’s reaction to the day-one DLC offers a reminder of gamers’ sensitivity towards such monetization practices.”
Despite the criticism, Thomas maintains optimism for the quality of the storytelling in Bloodlines 2, set to release on October 21, expressing hope that it will meet fan expectations.
