California Governor Gavin Newsom whimsically blamed the recent price hikes of the PlayStation 5 on President Donald Trump. Newsom took to Twitter, suggesting that Trump’s tariff policies are negatively impacting consumers.
The price of all PlayStation 5 models has risen by $50 in the U.S., now costing approximately $550 for the standard model, $500 for the Digital Edition, and $750 for the Pro version.
In a tweet sharing a related New York Post story, Newsom remarked, “Great work, @realDonaldTrump!!” implying that Trump’s economic policies have contributed to the gaming market challenges.
Sony cited a “challenging economic environment” for the price increases, without directly mentioning tariffs. However, analysts have long predicted that Trump’s tariffs would adversely affect the video game industry.
Additionally, on August 3, other gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch were also subjected to similar price increases, further reflecting the ongoing volatility in the gaming market.
