Creative Leads Depart Ahead of Lords of the Fallen 2 Reveal: An Uncertain Future

The sequel to the 2023 title Lords of the Fallen faces significant changes in leadership as three key developers are no longer with the studio.

The sequel to Lords of the Fallen has encountered a significant shift in leadership just months before its unveiling. CI Games recently announced changes that saw its creative director, art director, and executive producer depart the studio. This new shift raises questions about the creative direction of the forthcoming Lords of the Fallen 2.

Cezar Virtosu, the former creative director, described losing his position as a “surreal feeling,” expressing his deep attachment to the game’s universe over his five years of involvement.

“After five years steeped in dark fantasy, it became more than just a project, it was an extension of myself, but like Mournstead, no kingdom lasts forever,” he shared on LinkedIn.

Translation: No kingdom endures eternally.

The announcement was made following a teaser for the sequel during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.

Marek Tyminski, the CEO of CI Games, has been vocal about steering the project in a different direction, which prompted these staffing changes. The studio aims to ensure that the Lords of the Fallen remains true to its roots while evolving into something fresh.

In June, Tyminski brought on Nathan Richardsson to lead the development for both Lords of the Fallen 2 and another upcoming title. Meanwhile, James Lowe, a former art director with extensive experience, steps into the role of game director for the sequel.

Despite these upheavals, CI Games continues to promote a vision for its future endeavors, promising to retain the core elements that fans have enjoyed in the past.
