Protesters Establish 'Liberated Zone' at Microsoft Headquarters Over Military Ties
Microsoft employees and supporters establish a 'Liberated Zone' to protest the company's connections with the Israeli military amid ongoing violence.
A collective of Microsoft employees along with community supporters have formed a ‘Liberated Zone’ at their company’s East Campus Plaza, renaming it to ‘The Martyred Palestinian Children’s Plaza.’ This demonstration is a reaction to Microsoft’s ongoing collaboration with the Israeli military during the current conflict in Gaza.
The protest follows a report detailing how Microsoft technology is allegedly utilized by the Israeli military to surveil and manage communications within Palestine, contributing to the military’s activities in Gaza.
The organization, No Azure for Apartheid, advocates for Microsoft’s disassociation from military operations linked to alleged abuses. The protestors have established tents and invited Microsoft executives to engage in dialogue regarding their demands.
However, reports indicate that the protestors were subsequently asked to vacate the premises by corporate officials and local law enforcement. In a statement issued during the protest, Nisreen Jaradat remarked:
“Microsoft is the most complicit digital arms manufacturer in Israel’s genocide of Gaza, and Microsoft workers are refusing to contribute even a second more of our labor to the Holocaust of our time.”
