EA Plans for Annual Battlefield Releases, Analyst Reveals
Analyst Michael Pachter shares insights on EA's strategy to create an annual Battlefield game cycle.
EA appears to be gearing up to match Call of Duty’s extensive release schedule with their well-known Battlefield franchise. Michael Pachter, a long-time industry analyst, has discussed plans for maintaining an annual release of Battlefield games, aiming for a three-studio collaboration involving DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive to achieve this.
During a recent episode of his YouTube show, Pachter shared insights from his dialogue with Byron Beede, the general manager of Battlefield Studios:
“I talked to Byron Beede—good dude, former Activision guy, worked at Infinity Ward with Vince [Zampella]. He’s running the Battlefield franchise, and their goal is three studios making Battlefield on a three-year basis, so they can get to Battlefield annually. He said it’s gonna take five or six years before they get two in a row, so we’re not gonna get there for a while.”
The statement comes at a time when Battlefield’s strategy appears to be adapting to a model that has proven immensely profitable for competitors in the industry, notably Call of Duty which has maintained an unbroken cycle of annual releases for more than 20 years.
While this shift may promise numerous new and updated titles, it raises concerns among existing fans who appreciate the handmade quality and depth of content found in the traditional Battlefield release rhythm.
