Steam Introduces Language-Specific Review Scores to Enhance User Experience
Valve updates Steam's review scoring system to calculate scores based on the language of reviews, catering to diverse player experiences globally.
Valve has rolled out an update to Steam’s review scoring system that allows scores to be generated based on the specific language of reviews rather than a collective score across all languages. This feature aims to reflect the varied experiences customers might have with the same game depending on their location and language.
The new system is automatically enabled and will begin calculating language-specific scores when enough reviews are available in any given language. Specifically, a game needs to have over 2,000 total user reviews with at least 200 in the same language for this breakdown to be accessible.
Valve clarified, “The Review Score displayed will be based on the user’s primary language. Consequently, some languages may show more positive or negative ratings compared to others for the same title.”
This initiative seeks to better capture the sentiment of diverse user bases, acknowledging that factors such as translation discrepancies, cultural differences, and network reliability can greatly influence how a game is received across the globe.
Furthermore, users can opt to view overall scores across all languages in their Steam settings if they prefer this approach.
