Overwatch 2 Revives Summer Games for 2025

Overwatch 2 is bringing back the Summer Games event starting August 26, defying expectations and surprising fans.

The Overwatch 2 Summer Games for 2025 are set to commence on or after August 26 as part of Season 18. Initially believed to be absent this year, Blizzard announced at the last moment that the popular game modes would return, delighting players.

The event, which has historically taken place in July or early August, faced speculation that it would be canceled for 2025. However, Blizzard shocked the community by reconfirming its return on Twitter. While exact dates for the event have yet to be disclosed, it likely aligns with the start of Season 18 on August 26 and will run until September 16, following the typical three-week duration of previous Summer Games events.

Blizzard has shared minimal details about the upcoming games, but past events hint at a lineup that includes the beloved Lucioball mode, alongside the likely return of Winston’s Beach Volleyball from the previous year.

Expect several in-game challenges related to the games, which will likely feature rewards, including sprays and icons for new characters released since last Summer Games.

In addition to the Summer Games, Season 18 will introduce a new hero named Wuyang, who specializes in support and boasts unique abilities. Players are eager for what’s to come in the new season as additional details emerge leading up to the launch.
