OpenAI's CEO Discusses Future of AI and Its Ethical Boundaries

Sam Altman expresses concerns about the implications of AI in relationships during a recent dinner with reporters.

When discussing the future of artificial intelligence, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, remarked on the potential for certain companies to create unconventional applications, such as Japanese anime-themed bots. He stated, “You will definitely see some companies go make Japanese anime sex bots, but you will not see us do that.” Altman emphasized that OpenAI aims to create useful applications without exploiting vulnerable users.

He also mentioned the growing phenomenon of people establishing parasocial relationships with AI tools like ChatGPT, noting that while some users develop genuine feelings, most find comfort in the AI’s supportive responses. Altman is adamant that OpenAI will remain focused on the ethical use of AI, working to prevent misuse in scenarios involving mental health or personal relationships.
