A new rumor hints that EA intends to create an annual release system for Battlefield, inspired by the Call of Duty model. However, this plan won’t materialize imminently.
Traditionally, the Battlefield franchise has had less frequent releases compared to its FPS competitors, especially recently. Notably, there were three years between Battlefield 5 in 2016 and Battlefield 2042 in 2021, marking one of the longest intervals since the series began in 2002.
EA Aims for Annual Releases Despite Delays
Reports from Insider Gaming, backed by industry analyst Michael Pachter—who discussed with Battlefield General Manager Byron Beede—indicate EA’s objective to establish a three-studio workflow to support annual releases of Battlefield games. However, it may take five or six years before this goal is realized, suggesting fans must brace for longer waiting times.
While the idea of annual releases has potential, it also poses risks, including franchise burnout, as seen in other games transitioning to similar schedules. For now, many enthusiasts are rejoicing at the prospect of Battlefield making a strong comeback with the anticipated Battlefield 6, especially after the favorable reception during its recent open beta.
