Louisiana Takes Legal Action Against Roblox Over Child Safety Issues
The state of Louisiana has initiated a lawsuit against Roblox, raising concerns regarding child safety on the platform.
The state of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing it of enabling the distribution of child sexual abuse material and facilitating the sexual exploitation of children through its platform. Roblox has denied these allegations, asserting that they do not intentionally put users at risk of exploitation.
In a press release, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated that the absence of safety protocols on Roblox endangers the children in the state. Murrill further argued, “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. Every parent should be aware of this ongoing danger to their children.”
The lawsuit claims that despite requiring parental consent for children to create accounts, Roblox does not effectively verify that consent has been granted. The allegations also highlight the existence of highly inappropriate content on the platform, which includes games described as containing sexually explicit material.
In response to the allegations, Roblox mentioned their implementation of over 40 new features aimed at enhancing user safety. They emphasized their commitment to collaborating with law enforcement and other organizations to improve safety measures on the platform.
Quote from Louisiana Attorney General: “Roblox is violating Louisiana law - choosing profits over child safety. It’s basically open season for sex predators on this platform.”
