Key Insights into the Upcoming 'Skate' Game: Customization, Music, and Seasonal Features

EA reveals exciting new details about 'Skate', focusing on in-depth customization options, an expansive soundtrack, and the structure of seasonal content.

Electronic Arts recently disclosed a wealth of information regarding Skate, particularly about character customization, live-service updates, and the soundtrack ahead of the early access launch scheduled for late summer 2025.

The long-awaited fourth installment in the skating series, Skate, is developed by EA’s Full Circle Studio based in Vancouver. Originally announced in June 2020, it is positioned as a free-to-play, live-service title that is currently in closed alpha.

Enhanced Character Customization

Expected for a live-service game, Skate will feature comprehensive customization options. Gamers will not only be able to create their own characters with diverse combinations but also personalize their skateboards extensively. Unlockable cosmetics will be available through gameplay achievements and purchases, with a special currency named Rip Chips awarded for completing challenges.

Diverse Soundtrack Featuring Emerging Artists

The in-game soundtrack will launch with over 100 music tracks, emphasizing a mix of new artists. Players can save their favorite songs, and top selections from the community will be added to the evolving San Van Jams playlist. Some tracks will be collectible items found around the game’s world.

Seasonal Updates and Events

With a planned structure of seasonal content, each Skate season will introduce new features, events, cosmetics, and possibly adjustments to the game environment. A battle pass system called Skate Pass, featuring free and paid tiers, will allow players to unlock limited-time content. The first season is set to commence shortly after Skate launches in early access, with further details promised with the upcoming Grind: Vol. 6 report in September 2025. Full Circle has also confirmed the game will be entirely free to play, supporting up to 150 players per server.
