AMD's Upcoming RDNA 4 GPUs Set to Launch in Early March
AMD is set to release its next-generation RDNA 4 gaming graphics cards, crucial for reviving its declining gaming division.
AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 GPUs are officially scheduled for release in early March. This news comes at a crucial time as their gaming graphics division is facing significant challenges.
The announcement was made during AMD’s latest earnings call, which revealed various financial insights. During the call, CEO Lisa Su shared that the new RDNA 4 technology aims to improve ray tracing performance and include AI upscaling features, making 4K gaming more accessible for mainstream users when the first Radeon 9070 series GPUs hit the market.
Quote: “RDNA 4 delivers significantly better rate tracing performance and adds support for AI-powered upscaling technology that will bring high-quality 4K gaming to mainstream players.”
A few weeks prior, David McAfee, who oversees consumer CPU and GPU development at AMD, indicated that these new graphics cards would become available in March. But to everyone’s surprise, the launch date has now moved up, indicating a release sooner than anticipated.
The situation is exacerbated as AMD’s Gaming Graphics division saw a staggering revenue decline of 59% year-over-year, hitting $563 million. The overall gaming division’s revenue also dropped significantly compared to last year’s figures, emphasizing the urgency for a successful product launch.
Quote: “Revenue declined 59% year-over-year to $563 million… in Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year-over-year, as we accelerated channel sellout in preparation for the launch of our next-gen Radeon 9000 series GPUs.” - Jean Hu, CFO of AMD.
Rumors around the RDNA 4 technology bring a glimmer of hope, suggesting the GPUs might offer competitive performance relative to Nvidia’s products. However, the success of these cards could largely hinge on their pricing strategy to counter Nvidia’s prevalent market presence.
