Mega Dragonite Makes Its Long-Awaited Debut in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Mega Dragonite will premiere in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with a teaser in the Pokémon Horizons anime series.

Mega Dragonite, one of the Mega Evolutions featured in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, is poised to make its franchise debut ahead of the game’s release. This debut has been hinted at during an episode of Pokemon Horizons. However, fans outside of the East might miss seeing this episode before Pokemon Legends: Z-A officially releases.

Pokemon Horizons Teases Mega Dragonite Debut Episode

As per the tradition, the new Pokémon showcased in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also feature in the Pokemon anime. Mega Dragonite’s introduction will occur before the game itself, as teased in episode 107 of Pokemon Horizons: The Series. In this episode, Roy attempts a daring rescue after Ult (Uruto) gets captured while trying to sneak into the Explorers’ hideout, showcasing Ult’s Dragonite in the process.

While the details don’t explicitly state that Mega Dragonite will appear in this episode, online discussions indicate a strong belief among fans that it will. There is speculation that Ult’s Dragonite might evolve organically during the episode’s drama. Additionally, new Pokémon are anticipated to debut in this episode, including Rabsca and Darmanitan’s Galarian Zen Mode.

Release Information

Episode 107 is scheduled to air in Japan on August 22, as part of the Mega Voltage arc, which will likely be marketed as Pokemon Horizons Season 3 in the West. The release date for the localized version is still unknown. Pokemon Horizons often debuts its episodes in Japan before they reach Western audiences; Netflix is currently lagging with 28 episodes behind the Japanese release. Consequently, it’s probable that fans in the West will first encounter Mega Dragonite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, set to launch on October 16, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch and its successor. There’s also ongoing promotion featuring new footage from the game at the ongoing Pokemon World Championships in Anaheim, California.
