Razer has introduced its innovative BlackWidow V4 gaming keyboard series, which now comes in a low-profile design. Historically, gaming keyboards have offered a plethora of customization options in terms of type, switch mechanism, keycap styles, and lighting features. However, low-profile keyboards have been less common in recent years, despite their advantages in faster key actuation speeds.
These new BlackWidows are available in both full-size and tenkeyless versions, allowing users to choose based on their preference for keys, ergonomic needs, and desk space. They incorporate Razer’s HyperSpeed wireless technology, enabling a polling rate of up to 1,000 Hz, and support Bluetooth and USB-C wired connections. The series also retains the option for different mechanical switches, but now available in a low-profile format.
Razer maintains that, contrary to their prior assertions favoring optical switches, the BlackWidow V4’s mechanical switches will feel familiar to long-time Razer users. The tactile feedback and speed should appeal particularly to esports enthusiasts, as Razer’s Snap Tap enables rapid response times even with keys pressed down.
The premium keycaps are crafted from durable doubleshot PBT and feature Razer’s adjustable RGB lighting, allowing gamers to personalize their visual experience. Additionally, the keyboards promise extended battery life, with claims of up to 980 hours on a single charge when power-saving modes are activated.
With a retail price of $200 USD for the full-sized version and $170 USD for the tenkeyless variant, the BlackWidow V4 series positions itself as a premium offering in the competitive keyboard market.
