The long-standing mystery of Mount Chiliad in Grand Theft Auto 5 has kept fans speculating for over a decade, but recent theories may shed light on it. An intriguing new perspective links the enigmatic mural found at the location to UFO sightings within the game.
Achieving 100% completion in GTA 5 grants players access to additional content, including the opportunity to witness UFOs near Mount Chiliad. This location has earned a reputation among players for its bizarre occurrences, notably different UFOs during various missions and events.
Theory Unveiled
A prominent theory recently articulated by YouTuber Gator Keys suggests that the cryptic symbolism of the mural is tied to the UFOs, implying that the Federal Investigation Bureau (FIB), a parodic representation of the FBI within the game, is responsible for the creation of these unidentified flying objects. The theory posits that three symbols in the mural—a UFO, a jetpack, and an egg—represent two UFOs and highlight the player’s journey towards achieving 100% completion in the game.
The mural’s five blank spaces are thought to correspond to glyphs scattered across Mount Chiliad, which indicate conditions necessary for the UFO sightings, such as specific weather or time conditions. This theory gains support from a notable detail: players are able to see the FIB logo on the last UFO when they complete the culminating task at the mountain’s peak, suggesting the agency’s involvement.
The Deeper Meaning
Gator Keys concludes that the overarching message of this theory resonates both within the game’s narrative and in real life, revealing a social commentary on power and control: those in authority will constantly dictate the ways of others, regardless of one’s efforts or achievements. “Regardless of how much we strive for completion, the ultimate insight remains just out of reach, suggesting we’re not the omnipotent observers we hope to be,” he stated.
While developer Ben Hinchcliffe previously dismissed the idea of any significant meaning behind the Mount Chiliad mystery, claiming it was designed merely to confuse players, many dedicated fans find solace in this refreshing theory.
